  Libraries act as social and community hubs.   Libraries are a place people can come together with similar or diverse ideas and bring the community together.   The library is a public space that allows people to find information, community and connection.   The impact of the local library to bring diverse populations together is priceless to the community.   Libraries are seen as the third place, not the work place or the home, but a third place where people can come together to build friendships and strengthen the social bonds of a community and build a community identity.   Building a bond with community increases the likelihood that those people will see each other as neighbors rather than strangers.     During times of great strife and contention, libraries can provide information on protests, demonstrations and knowing their rights as citizens.   Libraries can play a role in providing accurate information regarding things going on in ...

  Libraries can use technology to stay connected with students during summer breaks or when virtual learning is used in schools.   Staying connected to students can have many benefits.   Students will have access to digital library materials and can learn about new books, watch book talks and learn about upcoming events coming to the local library.   Most students are on social networking sites, and when libraries can reach out to them in an easy and accessible way, it will be more likely that students will participate in their local library activities.   Many libraries are on social networking sites and that is helpful when reaching out to students.   During COVID, we saw how important virtual learning became, without being able to reach out to students virtually, they would not have had access to many great learning opportunities.   Social networking is just the latest way to reach out to the community and the students in those communities.   ...

  Libraries are extremely important in the lives of students.   Libraries contribute to student success by building their confidence with the research process, providing a study space that fosters social and academic community among students and enhances information literacy skills.   Research has shown that students who receive library instruction along with their regular academic schedule were known to perform better in classes and obtained higher grades than students who did not have access to library instruction.   When librarians and teachers worked together to ensure student success, the students benefit from this collaboration.   Many libraries have literacy programs that can help a non-English speaker students learn English.   When students learn English, they perform better in their classes as a result and many doors are opened for them, whether it be better academic performance or finding a job.   Librarians can take it one step further and...
